03.08.202600:30:00UTC+00Japan’s Manufacturing Momentum Eases Slightly as July PMI Edges Down to 54.5

Japan’s manufacturing expansion remained robust in July, though momentum eased slightly, according to the latest S&P Global Manufacturing PMI data. The index slipped to 54.5 in July 2026 from a previous reading of 54.7, still comfortably above the 50.0 threshold that separates growth from contraction.

The marginal decline suggests that while Japan’s factory sector continues to grow at a solid pace, the rate of improvement has moderated. Both the previous and current readings are reported for July 2026, with the updated figures released on 3 August 2026, indicating a modest softening rather than a shift in trend.

With the PMI firmly in expansionary territory, the data continue to point to underlying strength in Japan’s manufacturing sector, even as signs emerge that the earlier acceleration in activity may be leveling off.
